This event is the longest-running surfing competition in history. It is held in a sleepy spot in the land down under awakened by the thunderous breaks of the wave at Bells and the cheers of the crowd for this annual gathering of surf lovers.

The place of birth of Rip Curl wet suits and Quiksilver clothing is an hour away from the Melbourne airport. The foam is quite far from the local accommodations that you can get and the hike going to the Bells can be considered a very good exercise for the heart.

The waves never fail to challenge the surfing professionals. It is the dream of most surfers to conquer the breaks of the Bells and win this annual leg of the world championship.

Bells basically has six wave breaks which thrills the surfing world: the Bowl, the Outside Bells, Rincon, Centerside, Southside, and the Winkipop. The six foot waves make the Outside Bells the main rip wall. The Bowl is the almost vertical section of the wave that plateaus as the Winki when it passes over the reef.

Occasionally the Great White adds danger and excitement to this surfing event which has witness monster waves that toppled even well known surfing champions.

Coming from the airport, make sure that you have arrange for your transportation. Enjoy the usually quiet place by joining house parties which can make things wild. The media night also provides some heat and noise during the annual surfing tourney.

Surf is life this part of the globe. It is more than the surf wear, more than the culture. It is all about conquering the waves of foam that is not for the faint of heart. Ringing a Bell definitely is among the top things to do for a pro-surfer.
