Billabong Pro, Maui
As for the season ender event, it is usually the most anticipated event for the whole season. In fact this event is painstakingly awaited by all surfing fans all over the world since it tends to offer only nothing but the best waves of the season. Also, it gives out the last tour point cracks. Honolua is known to be place in which titles are both won and lost by the best surfing legends. It is also the place where all surfers give their game a whopping hundred and one percent just to make sure that they get to the powerful righthanders in exquisite form.
Expect to battle out clear water powerful right-handers if you really want to break the bay. On the bottom side of the deal, what you get would be a hardcore combination of rock, coral, and sand. You should also expect to see waves holding their forms between 3-12 feet or more.
The perks of this surfing paradise would be its gorgeous barrelling righthanders that make a picture perfect wave experience. However, the surf could be deceivingly heavy. Additionally, having a side trip to the bottom is quite a normal event. Be sure that you pay respect to the spot big time, since the locals are very much protective of it. Of course, sharks visit occasionally too.
Although Maui is not that well known, it also offers world-class surfing waves minus the crowd. You could always break away from Honolua to explore various breaks or simply take a scenic trip around the island. Additionally, Honolua has been the host of the Billabong Pro event since 2002, and has always served to be ASP Women’s World Tour’s culminating activity.
